RUF SCR 'Mary Stuart' Anchors Broad Arrow's Inaugural Quail Auction
Rare German tuner and bespoke Singer commissions lead collector car sale featuring nearly 200 lots across two days in California.
Broad Arrow will conduct its inaugural edition of The Quail Auction on August 13 and 14 at The Quail Golf Club in Carmel, California, with nearly 200 collector cars scheduled across the two-day sale.
The RUF SCR 'Mary Stuart' leads the sale's emphasis on alternative Porsche derivatives and bespoke commissions. The vehicle marks the first time the RUF SCR has appeared at auction. The RUF group encompasses multiple examples from the German tuning house.
Three bespoke Singer 911 models represent the market's persistent appetite for high-end restoration-reimagining commissions. The offerings include a 1990 911 Classic Turbo Services 'Aurum Verde Commission,' a 1990 911 Coupe 'Los Angeles Commission,' and a 1990 911 Targa 'Coconut Grove Commission.' Each carries the Singer workshop's hallmark documentation and bespoke specifications.
The sale also features canonical Porsche production milestones. A rare 1988 959 Komfort, representing the marque's technology flagship of the late 1980s, appears alongside an Exclusive Department 1995 911 Turbo Cabriolet. An era-defining 2015 918 Spyder is offered without reserve, positioning the hybrid supercar—a final statement from the pre-electric generation—at market-clearing estimates.
The sale structures Porsche-focused lots across three categories: factory air-cooled models, tuner variants, and contemporary production vehicles. This segmentation reflects collector portfolio construction patterns, where allocators balance scarcity premiums (959, RUF) against appreciation runway (Singer commissions, 918 Spyder). The absence of reserve pricing on the 918 suggests confidence in achieving floor value, a signal that hybrid-era Porsches have stabilized after two years of transaction volatility.
Broad Arrow's entry into the Quail auction calendar follows consolidation among regional sale houses. The venue's automotive heritage and calendar positioning—during Monterey Car Week—creates inventory sourcing advantages for management. Performance across the two sessions will establish whether collectible car sales can sustain independent operations amid rising overhead at established houses.
